Way before there was drive through there was drive IN. The concept was simple and you can still see it in shows set in the 50’s and early 60’s.
You drove into a parking lot and flashed your car lights. The waitress would come out, usually on rollerskates, take your order then return with the order placing it on a try on the window. I remember sometimes thinking that with the weight of all the glasses on the tray (for a family of five it was not inconsiderable), that it would break the window off of the car.
Eating was slower and just seemed a better way to live.
